Would you like to win a signed James Roy book?

Every two months, I'll be running a creative writing competition for young people. If you're still in primary school (or younger!), you're eligible to enter, and at the end of each round I'll publish the best three entries on my website, and send the winner a groovy prize - a signed copy of one of my books!

The September/October 2005 winner, with a story based on the phrase "WHISPER INTO THE BLACKNESS", and therefore the winner of a signed copy of Captain Mack, was Ariana Villarosa. Congratulations, Ariana! The runners-up were Jack Denby and Fleur van Asperen. Well done to everyone who entered.

You can read the winning entries here.

Next time the lucky winner could be you, so read the November.December guidelines carefully, write your entry and email it to competition@jamesroy.com.au. The winners will be notified by email.

Competition details for November/December2005

For November and December, I've decided to take a Christmasy kind of approach. Your task is to write a short passage inspired by the following phrase:

BOOM WENT THE CRACKER

Your passage might be a poem, it might be the first paragraph of a story. It's entirely up to you, so get writing! I can't wait to see what you all come up with.

And a brief reminder to put your name and age at the bottom of your entry.

RULES & CONDITIONS:
1. Entries will only be accepted via email to competition@jamesroy.com.au. Don't forget to get your parents' permission to enter, and include your full name and age. Please don't put your address in the entry - if you win, you'll be contacted for your details.
2. Entries must be sent before the end of 31 December 2005 to be eligible.
3. Entrants must be in primary school or younger, and must also be Australian residents. Prizes will only be posted to Australian addresses.
4. The judge's decision is final, and won't be discussed.
5. All entrants, by entering, give permission for their names and their entry, if selected as a winner, to be published unedited on the jamesroy.com.au website
6. Copyright remains with the entrant at all times.
7. Winners will be contacted via email.
